Barbara Gets Her Wings
Catwalk star Barbara Palvin has been announced as the newest member of the Victoria’s Secret Angels’ stable. A native of Budapest, she is the first Hungarian model to receive the coveted wings.

Barbara was discovered aged 12 while running errands with her mother and got her first break in 2010 walking as an exclusive for Prada in Milan. Since then she has appeared in shows ranging from Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu to Jeremy Scott and Dolce and Gabbana. She also captured the attention of Karl Lagerfeld after being cast in a Chanel Haute Couture show in Saint-Tropez. He subsequently booked her for multiple advertising campaigns for Chanel.

Having joined Victoria’s Secret last year, she was made an Angel in March.

New Creative Director
PAULE KA and Xavier Marie have announced Maxime Simoëns as the fashion house’s new artistic director.

Following the recent departure of founder Serge Cajfinger, the house is now embarking on a new chapter with Maxime Simoëns, whose mission is to develop and enrich the brand’s stylistic vocabulary with the help of the workshop and teams at 223 rue Saint – Honoré, Paris.

Maxime Simoëns, 34, is a graduate of the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and the École des Arts Décoratifs. In 2009, he showed his first creations at the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and presented his first collection at Paris Fashion Week in October the same year. since 2017, has been at Azzaro, in charge of the ready-to-wear lines for men and women as well as the haute couture line.

Xavier Marie says: “When I bought PAULE KA 18 months ago, I asked its founder Serge Cajfinger to help me get this beautiful fashion house back on the right track for its 30th birthday. After a year-long search, I am delighted to have found the artistic director who has the talent required to continue and complete the revitalisation process.”

Tom Ford to Head CFDA
Tom Ford is to follow in the footsteps of other industry giants with his election as chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). He will take over the role on January 1, 2020, following on from Diane von Furstenberg, who held it for 13 years. The role, previously president rather than chairman, has been held by Oscar de la Renta, Stan Herman and Bill Blass.

Ford, who has been a member of the CFDA since 2000, has won a total of seven CFDA Fashion Awards: Menswear Designer of the Year (2015, 2008), Womenswear Designer of the Year (2001), Accessory Designer of the Year (2002), Board of Director’s Tribute (2004), International Designer of the Year (1995), and the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award (2014).

The CFDA has more than 500 members made of up designers from women’s and men’s wear, jewellery, and accessories. In addition to hosting the CFDA Fashion Awards Gala, the council manages the official New York Fashion Week schedule and is the owner of the Fashion Calendar.

Hijabs From Halima
American-Somali model and modest trendsetter Halima Aden is to work with Turkish modest brand Modanista to create a range of hijabs which will launch later this month at Istanbul Modest Fashion Week, taking place April 20-21.

The first hijabi model to work with management giant IMG, Halima recently made headlines at New York Fashion Week wearing a glittering chain-link Christian Cowan hijab.

And, off the catwalk, she has a strong following as a streetwear style star who’s often spotted in bold prints and bright colours.

Her collection is expected to comprise a range of around 27 headscarves and is likely to include at least some of her signature styles.
