Bob Suri tells Liz O’Reilly that his hotel is going all-out to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.

October-2016_People1_002It’s a well-known fact, the world officially turns pink in October and across the island restaurants, hotels and retailers will all be doing their bit to raise awareness of the disease which kills more than half a million women worldwide every year, according to the most recent World Health Organisation statistics.

One place that will be making a really big effort is the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, where each venue will have something going on throughout the month, raising not just awareness but, hopefully, a sizeable amount of cash too.

The initiative is being organised by hotel manager, Bob Suri, who got involved after meeting tireless Think Pink campaigner Julie Sprakel. He explains: “I met Jules and saw a huge opportunity for community outreach, which is one of the core values of Four Seasons – wherever we go we try to be involved in the community. We look for ways to be involved and to give back to the communities we’re operating in.

“When I heard about what the organisation in Bahrain aims to do, it touched my heart and I really wanted to help. We have a whole range of activities going on throughout the month and we will be donating part of the proceeds to Think Pink.”

General manager Greg Pirkle adds: “Cancer research is very, very important across the whole Four Seasons chain. Our original founder Isador Sharp is a strong supporter of cancer research, having lost one of his sons to the disease. We’re very, very excited about all the things we have happening during the month and, as well as the activities for guests, we will be having options for staff to get involved and donate.”

The combination package involves a foot wash, scrub, massage and heart work using rose oil and warmed rose quartz. Spa members will also be invited to a talk by Julie Sprakel which aims to raise awareness of the disease and encourage self-checking.

Throughout October guests checking out of the hotel will also be given the option to make a donation as part of their bill.
