I recently stopped by Dessange to pick up three of Dermalogica’s scientifically researched and developed creations, formulated to smooth away fine lines and firm up the skin and promising to control signs of aging before they start.
As instructed, I first tried the daily microfoliant, which is gentle enough to be used every day, on all skin types. The back of the bottle promises brighter, smoother skin, which it actually did. My face felt free of those all too familiar grainy bumps. This rice-based powder is meant to activate upon contact with water, whereby it releases papain (derived from papaya), salicylic acid and rice enzymes to polish and buff the skin to a velvety texture, while minimising the visibility of large pores. Its skin brightening complex of phytic acid, white tea and licorice helps balance an uneven skin tone, while its blend of colloidal oatmeal and allantoin is super soothing and effective in calming irritable skin.
Next, I reached out for the multivitamin power recovery masque, which is part of Dermalogica’s AGE smart range for twice-weekly use. I was told by the Dessange Skin Specialist that this is an ‘ambulance in a tube’, and after the very first use, I saw why. The nutrient-rich masque is created to rescue stressed skin in a jiffy. Its concentration of vitamins A, C, E and F (linoleic acid) helps to heal any damage which causes ageing, and ups the skin’s defenses by enhancing its barrier properties. Vitamin A helps increase elasticity and moisture content while C and E act as antioxidants that protect against free radicals. The masque contains Dermalogica’s exclusive Age Smart Complex, which acts to prevent the signs of ageing at the very source, thanks to which it corrects dehydrated, lacklustre, photodamaged skin.
Onto my now softened and hydrated skin, I spritzed the antioxidant hydramist, another effective armament in the AGE smart range. My combination skin is usually hard to tackle – oily in the T-zone and quite dry on the rest of my face. But this convenient-to-use, mist-on toner handled it just right. It creates an active antioxidant shield to help stave off free radical damage and, thereby, the various signs of aging. It’s pea extract firms, lifts and tightens, while fragrant rose and clove essences give an overall refreshed feeling.
I must mention here that I used these products just before getting ready for a night out. Not only did my facial skin look luminously healthy, with the light bouncing of it without that oil-slick look, but I could also swear my makeup glided on more effortlessly than ever.
