Regional Influence
The Body Shop is celebrating freedom of expression with the Scents of Life collection created in collaboration with influential women from across the region including Wafa Ahmed, Amal Sultan, Bayan Al Sindi and Lina Al Serhan.

Amal of @Terter_Thinks says: “I was only 13 years old when I got addicted to The Body Shop! Twenty-one years later, I’m so proud to be a part of the Scents of Life campaign. It’s a privilege. When you are asked by a global brand to be involved in the development of such an innovative fragrance range, it makes you feel like your voice matters. The final collection is something new and exciting, and now women and men everywhere can choose and create a fragrance from The Body Shop that is unique to them.”

Beauty Online
Internet giant Amazon has announced the launch of its own skincare label, Belei, aimed at targeting issues including dullness, dehydration and acne.

The 12-piece line is free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates and fragrance, and offers options including oil-free micellar make-up removal wipes, a tri-peptide blend eye cream, a retinol moisturiser and a hyaluronic acid serum. The packaging is ecofriendly, made from recycled resin, and products are priced from USD9 to USD40. What’s not to like?

New Launch
Perhaps best known for its Birkin bags and other high-end luxe fashion products, iconic house Hermès is set to launch a beauty line next year.

The brand currently produces a very successful fragrance but this will be a new departure. And, though further details have not been released, Hermès chief executive, Axel Dumas, told businessoffashion.com: “It’s quite exciting. It’s a new activity, with all the risks that involves, so we will deploy it progressively, initially in our own stores mainly, in a limited distribution so that we can learn. Obviously, we hope to have the biggest scope possible. We are trying to do it humbly and cautiously, because it’s a big market that’s already full of strong players, and therefore we have to find our place in it.”

Plump Your Pout

The latest lip augmentation procedure is here, and it sounds painful. The US FDA has approved threading as a non-surgical lip enhancement option – and no, it’s nothing to do with hair removal. Instead fine threads, made from poly-L-lactic acid (or PLLA) – a “biocompatible synthetic substance” – are passed through the outer margins of the lips stimulating collagen production and changing the shape.

Apparently the procedure is carried out without anaesthetic and doctors have warned that, like any medical procedure, it carries risks such as the formation of lumps.

Vegans Rejoice
As veganism continues to grow in both influence and followers, beauty brand Tarte has launched a vegan sister brand Sugar Rush. All costing USD25 or less, there are 17 products ranging from a whipped body butter to liquid lipstick and more. The line also includes vegan make-up brushes and a matching make-up bag. Vegnews.com reports that, while its parent brand Tarte does not test on animals, some of its products contain animal-based ingredients. Sugar Rush, however, features products formulated with natural, vegan ingredients made to appeal to Generation Zers who, according to the brand, “don’t compromise what they put on their body or what they believe in”.
