June 2015: Editor’s Note

Fernanda LanghammerThe heat is already here bringing our June issue with it. This also means that Ramadan is just around the corner and we should get ready. Make all the preparations in advance like adjusting your routine to have your meals at home during sunlight hours (if you don’t fast) and adapting your wardrobe to a more conservative style. Don’t forget to follow the etiquette (and rules) of this period, such as not having water in public places.

During evening hours, the island wakes up and restaurants and malls work at full speed. We’ve selected some of the Iftars and Ghabgas offered in the Kingdom by hotels and restaurants, so you can pick your favourite spot to share your meal and valuable time with friends and family. Most of the places have Arabic food as the main attraction, but you can also find international cuisine among the traditional local selections. To embrace the feast in style, opt for a place with a special tent and Arabic traditions.

This month, our cover star is the lovely Karima Sharabi, who transformed her meaningful tattoos, made with inspiration from traditional Arabic calligraphy, into stunning jewellery. Big thanks to lenSway for the cover shot. Our editorial director, Liz O’Reilly, spoke to two interesting ladies, Mary-Justine Todd about her work with Women’s Crisis Care International and Anna Thompson-Hall, a cranio-sacral therapist and opera singer.

Our June issue also brings a motoring special, featuring the car styles available in the market and two amazing test-drives for Porsche and Audi.

Mamma Mia, Rome is here! Ankita Mamgain explores the most beautiful regions of Italy in her travel pages, while in our food pages we share some traditional Italian recipes.

Ramadan Kareem and Eid Mubarak!
