The Better Way To Wear Your Perfume – Behnaz Sanjana

Sometimes it seems like your perfect scent is gone in minutes but there are ways to get that fragrance, that cost an arm and a leg, to linger on and on. Use these simple spritzing strategies to keep smelling fabulous long into the day (or night!).

1. Know Your Pulse Points
This helps to diffuse scents better. Besides the standard places, like the wrists, neck and behind the earlobes, aim your spray inside the elbows, below the navel and behind the knees.

2. Versatile Vaseline
An oily base holds scents longer. Dab some good ol’ Vaseline, a thick unscented moisturiser, or even some clear lip balm (when you’re on the go) onto pulse points for your scent to stay around as long as possible.

3. Shower and Spray
Use your fragrance right after you shower. Damp skin will catch the scent much better.
4. Don’t Mimic Mama
You may have seen the glamazons of yesteryear rubbing their wrists right after spraying them with perfume. Don’t do that, you’ll be forcing the scent to evaporate faster. Also, spritzing the perfume in the air and walking through it is a complete waste of your product. Apply directly onto skin or clothes.

5. The Clothes Have It
Fabric fibres have the ability to hold scents for a long time, sometimes even after a gentle hand wash! But spray with caution, though. Perfumes can stain some materials like silk, as well as tarnish jewellery.

6. Ideal Storage
Stowing your scents in the bathroom allows heat and humidity to lessen their potency.

7. Keep Him Smelling Your Hair
Coat your hairbrush with a light mist of your favourite floral or citrusy scent and comb through for fresh-smelling tresses. Spraying directly onto hair may result in dry strands.

8. Over The Top Rescue
If you think you’ve overdone the spraying, or don’t like the scent on you, take it off with a make-up wipe.

SMART GIRL PERFUME HACK
Got the last couple of drops that won’t spray anymore from a well-loved bottle? Pour into your unscented or mildly-scented body lotion, hand cream or after-shower oil for a luxurious scent.

Or, dab remnants of your almost empty bottle onto cotton balls thrown into cupboards for divine-smelling clothes or linen. This is more for girls who are loyal to a signature scent.

SEASONAL SCENTS
Your winter fragrance can be a heavier woodsy or powdery scent – think notes of musk, rose, vetiver, cinnamon, vanilla, fig, pine, orange blossom and cacao. Budget-conscious gals can shop thrifty for Le Palais Des Parfums Rose Eternelle Eau De Parfum, available at Lifestyle Stores; Honeymania Eau de Toilette from The Body Shop; or In The Stars Eau De Parfum from, Bath & Body Works. If you’re ready to dole out the big bucks, then set your sights on Première by Gucci, Embruns d’Ylang Eau de Parfum from Guerlain or Gabrielle Chanel Eau De Parfum By Chanel; all available at leading retailers in Bahrain.
