Ouiam El Hassani tells us how to keep date nights alive (despite COVID-19).

It’s 2020 all over again. We are once again asked to stay home to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. However, this time we might just be a tad more prepared and have a trick or two up our sleeves because 2020 has taught us well! Some got their dumbbells and mats ready, some prepared their study, and today I will share how you can have all the romance you need without leaving the comfort of your home.

Before having kids, couples almost never struggled to find time for romance. The simplest thing would be to head out for dinner on a whim, without worrying about coordinating schedules or arranging childcare. Kids bring a new challenge to date nights or to any possible opportunity to reconnect with your partner. They are always there, they always need you, and they never sleep when you want them to! Throwing a pandemic into the mix makes things even harder; you can kiss your romantic dinner goodbye. However, instead of giving up, why not view the challenge as an opportunity to get creative?

Here are some date night ideas you can still enjoy:

1- Takeout and Movie Night
Dinner and a movie have always been a staple for cosy date nights. Netflix makes it easy to find an option that will satisfy you and your partner -an old movie or a new one, in the comfort of your own living room. Order some food you both enjoy, watch a romantic comedy, and chill – a plan that never gets old, especially if you are a parent!

2- Cheese Platter Night
One thing that helps keep the spice in date night is taking turns planning it. Cheese night is the perfect opportunity for one of you to surprise the other. Selecting and arranging a tasting board of cheeses, crackers, and spreads to sample together, seems like a fancy and fun way to spend the night. If you are feeling competitive, each one can put together their own charcuterie and then decide who did it best. (Spoiler alert: Everyone wins)

3- Learn a New Skill
Easy there. I don’t mean learning a language; I am leaning more towards perfecting a cocktail recipe or learning how to roll sushi.
At-home date nights are the perfect opportunity to learn something new together, it is fun, challenging and rewarding too! You can try making your own pasta, take on painting, or recreate an episode of ‘Master Chef’. Feeling adventurous? Maybe you can learn how to unclog a kitchen sink or speed-read; the sky is the limit.

4- Game Night
Nothing says ‘fun’ more than a game night. Laughter, fun, and some clumsiness are all recipe for a great night. Whether it’s playing cards, game boards, or even puzzles, you won’t just have an unforgettable date but an original one too.
Whatever game you choose, it will be awesome!

5- Karaoke Night
Unleash the star within you… and laugh together as you miss a beat.

6- An Unusual One!
Have a fun cardio workout, or take an online Yoga or meditation class, whatever feels more fun to you.

7- Spa Night
Put on robes, take out your face masks, moisturisers, and creams, slice up some cucumbers and lemons to make that fancy spa water, and have a night of relaxation.

Let nothing spoil your romantic night with your partner; you both deserve it!
