Liz_OReilly_Editorial_DirectorIt’s the start of a new year and, if you’re anything like me, you’re probably wondering where on earth 2017 went. As we get older, the years seem to pass by more quickly and we, almost inevitably, try to cram more into each day. With that in mind, I loved reading Ouiam Charkani El Hassani’s column this month. She’s urging us all to slow down and enjoy the journey and I can’t help but think she has a point.

As always, for many of us the dawn of a new year brings about the desire to get fit and maybe lose a few of those festive kilos. Our main feature this month takes a look at the latest fitness trends and I must say I’m really looking forward to trying a few of them – I mentioned bungee fit on these pages a few months ago, so I’m delighted to share that it’s coming to Bahrain, hopefully by March. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find WaterWalkerz on the island too, but maybe I’ll just steer clear of that one.

Our interview section this month includes a bit of a scoop, a chat with the newly-crowned Miss Bahrain, Fawzia Abdulredha Nadhar, who managed to answer my many questions while she was in Cairo competing in Miss Arab World. I also spoke to an inspirational lady lawyer, Aysha Mutaywea, who’s crusading for women’s empowerment, and Behnaz caught up with Rosaline Roy, founder of the island’s only all-women Toastmasters group.

On our Homes pages you’ll find Behnaz is taking the New Year spring cleaning vibe very seriously as she lays out a whole bunch of eco-friendly (and wallet-friendly) cleaning ideas.

And, in Travel, I’ve lined up some fabulous retreats if you fancy a break for both body and soul – Peru’s definitely on my list.

As always we’ve got our regular round-ups of fashion and beauty news plus styling and hair tips. Fernanda has really gone to town on the winter fashion wear. From head scarves to woolly neck warmers and a cowgirl vibe, can you tell she’s heading Stateside and looking forward to a bit of cool weather shopping? We’ve introduced a funky new layout on our Get The Look pages and I’d love to know what you think, so why not contact me by email or on our social media pages.

I hope you enjoy this month’s issue and wish you a very Happy New Year from all at Woman This Month.
