Gone are the days when glittery make-up was seen as a tacky offence, 2018 is the year of no rules when it comes to beauty, and eyeshadow is no different. Glittery eyes are on-trend and don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Tricky at first, if done tastefully, glittery eye make-up completes your look with an unrestrained flair that’s definitely worth the effort.

DRAMA MAMA!
If you’re a beginner in eye make-up, don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Keep calm and invest in a glitter stick or a glitter cream palette. If you’re using the stick, drag it over your eyelids evenly, ensuring that you haven’t overdone it. With the glitter cream palette, dip your finger in then dab lightly till you get the desired effect. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, as long as the colours you pick complement each other.

Be wary of clumps getting stuck to your lashes – not a great look.
Finally, couple your sparkly eyes with precise, black winged Egyptian-style eyeliner for a feisty, dramatic look.

Tip: Bolder green and blue glitter shades are wise choices for darker complexions as these make your eyes pop.

A CLASSY SPARKLE
Why would I try glitter eyeliner when I can barely manage a basic eyeliner, you ask? Easy, because your eyes will dazzle like they’ve never done before and once you master it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t try it sooner.

For this look, you’ll need some nude eyeshadow base, just to hold everything together, and a darker colour of your choice. You’ll also need some glitter eyeliner, of course. Apply the base generously to your lid, then use a fluffy brush to buff on your chosen colour lightly, highlighting the crease. Use your glitter eyeliner brush to delicately draw a line just above your lashes. A thicker line will result in a more pronounced look, while a thin line is recommended for daytime wear.

Tip: For maximum effect, draw a thin line with pitch-black eyeliner and apply the glitter liner over it.

BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL
Not going to lie, this last one is a bit of a show-stopper with its festival vibe, and there’s one thing you’ll need to pull it off — confidence!

Apply your eyeshadow as normal and pick complementing glitter to match. Apply a good deal of concealer underneath your eyes, as you would during your normal make-up routine. Next, use an eyeshadow brush to dab some glitter on, either in a particular pattern or not – they both work equally well. Be careful of glitter getting in your eye. As to how much glitter you should apply? You do you, girl.

Tip: Use bold, chunky glitter pieces for a fearless look.
