For a long time, the financial industry was a traditional bastion of male dominance. But, these days, that’s no longer the case. More and more women are choosing to pursue careers in banking and other areas of the financial sector.

Websites such as www.womensworldbanking.org a global non-profit devoted to giving more low-income women access to the financial tools and resources they require to build security and prosperity, are empowering women as customers.

And lists, such as American Banker’s Women to Watch (check out Mary Mack), are illustrating just how far women have come in a few short years.

Here in the Middle East, and particularly in Bahrain, the financial sector has very definitely woken up to the positive aspects of promoting women in the workplace. Statistics show improved productivity and positivity through enhanced communication and networking skills and financial employers are keen to take advantage with programmes aimed at promoting women’s development.
Over the following pages we highlight some of those programmes and also chat to women who are leading the way in the financial workplace.

And, for those looking to get to grips with their own finances, Pria Masson gives her monthly dose of financial wisdom.
