Timeless Fashion Meets Sustainable Style

Becca’s Closet offers curated high-end vintage pieces while fostering a community committed to eco-friendly fashion. Edwin D’Souza chatted with owner Lani Price to discover her personal journey and dedication to redefine second-hand style.

Lani’s passion for high-end vintage fashion was inspired by a deep personal connection to her grandmother, Becca, who instilled in her a love for quality fabrics and expert stitching. “As a little girl, I would sit at my grandmother’s feet while she shared stories of her love for fashion,” she recalls. “She taught me etiquette, poise and grace.”

After her grandmother passed away, Lani opened several boxes of her belongings. Instead of feeling sadness, she found “luxurious fabrics and stunning pieces” that seemed to transcend time. “It was on that life-changing day that I developed a love for designer vintage,” she says, which eventually led to the creation of Becca’s Closet.

At Becca’s Closet, sustainability is paramount. Pieces are sourced from local stores, charities and even customers, with each item handpicked for its quality. “I focus on high-end brands of exceptional design and fabric,” she shares. “Most pieces have never been worn and are still with tags.” For pre-loved pieces, any damage is carefully repaired, ensuring a long life for the garments.

What sets Becca’s Closet apart from other second-hand brands is its commitment to luxury and accessibility. “I curate high-end pieces that are made for longevity,” Lani explains. “Designer clothes often have a higher chance of reusability because they’re built to last.” Additionally, the brand offers a rental service for evening gowns, encouraging customers to try new styles without the commitment of one-time wear.

One of her proudest moments came when a customer, who struggled with body image, found a dress that made her feel beautiful. “When she tried it on for the first time, she cried and said: ‘I never thought I could ever look this beautiful again.’ That moment will stay with me forever,” says Lani.

Becca’s Closet also fosters a sense of community, with opportunities for customers to engage in workshops, volunteer and collaborate. “We achieve more together than we could alone,” she affirms.

By prioritising sustainability and high-quality fashion, Becca’s Closet is at the forefront of the growing ‘green’ fashion movement. “The future is bright for sustainable fashion, and I see Becca’s Closet as one of the innovators in this movement,” she concludes.
