In Her Shoes – Vinny Aseeja

Vinny Aseeja – Head of Business Development & Operations at Toni & Guy, Joz Salons and Topcut Barber & Spa

As one of the most dynamic women in the beauty industry, Head of Business Development & Operations at Toni & Guy, Joz Salons and Topcut Barber & Spa, Vinny Aseeja, has much wisdom to share. Let’s take a walk in her shoes!

What does a typical day in your shoes look like?
My day blends fitness, passion, work and relationships. Leadership involves balancing strategy and problem-solving while fostering innovation and efficiency. I stay adaptable, communicate openly and focus on team dynamics. At night, I feel grateful and excited for another chance to chase dreams and create impact.

What’s the most thrilling business breakthrough you’ve been part of?
Opening a salon, launching new services or introducing luxury treatments were game changers. Implementing technology, celebrity styling and destination weddings expanded our reach. These innovations strengthened the business, boosted team morale and improved client satisfaction, ensuring we stayed competitive and continued to grow.

How would you describe your leadership style?
Empathetic, visionary and adaptable. I prioritise understanding my team, setting long-term goals and embracing change. The salon industry evolves constantly, so staying flexible and forward-thinking ensures growth, innovation and a supportive work environment.

What’s one place you can’t wait to travel to, and why?
Bali or Santorini. Bali’s wellness retreats could inspire new spa treatments, while Santorini’s breathtaking scenery offers the perfect place to recharge. Both destinations provide relaxation, creativity and fresh business inspiration.

How do you recalibrate when things don’t go as planned?
I assess the issue, communicate with my team and adjust goals. Staying flexible and open to change allows me to turn setbacks into opportunities. Innovation, problem-solving and transparency keep both operations and growth on track.

How would you describe yourself in one word?
Resilient. Leadership requires bouncing back from setbacks, staying focused and pushing forward despite challenges.

If your career journey was a book title, what would it be, and why?
‘Leading with Vision: Building Success One Step at a Time.’ It reflects my strategic leadership, adaptability and commitment to growth while managing daily operations.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
‘Lead by example, not by expectation.’ Demonstrating values, work ethic and behaviour inspires trust and motivation far more than simply instructing a team.

What’s your go-to way to recharge or find inspiration?
Spending time in nature. Walks, hikes or quiet outdoor moments clear my mind and bring fresh ideas. Creative hobbies and learning new skills also inspire innovation.
