A Catalyst for Research on Women’s Studies in the Region

The Royal University for Women (RUW)’s pioneering Women’s Research Centre proudly shares its achievements following a successful inaugural year. Established to advance scientific research on women’s studies, the Centre provides evidence-based policy recommendations supporting women’s empowerment in Bahrain and across the region. Appointed in November 2023 to lead this pioneering initiative, Dr. Christelle Comair shares the Centre’s vision and strategic direction, positioning it as a key research actor in women’s studies nationally, regionally and internationally.

Expanding the Research Culture
The Centre has built a strong foundation by launching targeted research streams and establishing partnerships with key stakeholders. Promoting a multidisciplinary approach, the Centre serves as a dynamic environment for research excellence, capacity building and policy development. Working closely with RUW’s departments and bridging academia and industry, the Centre enriches RUW’s research ecosystem and supports emerging talents.

A Hub for High-Impact Research and Partnerships
In its inaugural year, the Centre launched nationally relevant projects, including the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) study with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, a series of national roundtables around the SDGS, a study on women in diplomacy with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and initiatives on women in sports, sustainability and health. These projects align with the Kingdom’s national research goals and contribute to RUW’s academic impact through publications and policy-focused white papers.

A Catalyst for Events and Knowledge Sharing
The Centre also co-organised a regional conference on entrepreneurship, research forums and is planning for upcoming events including a sustainability symposium and hackathon and the women in society research conference. Committed to advancing women’s studies, the Women’s Research Centre at RUW is set to build on its inaugural year’s success, driving meaningful change through research partnerships and knowledge sharing, while reinforcing its role as a regional catalyst for research on women’s issues.
