As the wife of the French Ambassador to Bahrain, Amélie Giraud-Telme has embraced her new life in the Kingdom. In this exclusive interview, she opens up to the importance of cultural exchange, resilience and empowering future generations
Raised in the picturesque region of Côtes du Rhône in southern France, Mrs. Giraud-Telme remains deeply connected to her roots, particularly the family’s organic grape beverage heritage.
With a background in Human Resources, Mrs. Amélie spent over 15 years as an HR Manager before her life took a new direction upon meeting her husband. “I was not destined for a diplomatic life until I met him,” she admits. “However, since arriving in Bahrain in September 2023, I have embraced my role as a mother,people
finding joy in our children’s growth, especially as our daughter now speaks three languages.”
Having lived and worked in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Mrs. Giraud-Telme’s exposure to different cultures has broadened her perspective. “Each country I’ve lived in has its own unique culture and dynamics,” she explains, emphasising the importance of cultural awareness and adaptability. “It’s not just about adjusting, but embracing what makes each place special.
Adapting to life in Bahrain, Mrs. Giraud-Telme appreciates the warm and welcoming nature of the Bahraini people. “This island is a treasure, not just for its rich history but for the generosity of its people,” she says.
Passionate about causes close to her heart, Mrs. Giraud-Telme has actively engaged in the fight against breast cancer by organising a ‘Pink October’ conference at the French Embassy. She is also involved with the Bahrain Diabetes Society, focusing on Type 1 diabetes prevention and treatment as well as the Children and Mothers Welfare Society.
Though she left her career in HR behind, Mrs. Giraud-Telme has capitalised on her significant career to mentor students, helping them with career coaching, CV writing and interview preparation. “I enjoy assisting them in developing their skills and navigating their paths,” she explains.
In her role as an ambassador’s wife, Mrs. Giraud-Telme is involved in the relationship between France and Bahrain and is delighted to support many activities organised by the French embassy. “My main goal is to build on these ties in many sectors, particularly with young entrepreneurs,” she asserts. Her passion for collaboration and support for others extends to empowering young women to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. “Perseverance and maintaining a positive mindset are key,” she adds.
On a final note, she expresses her appreciation for Bahrain’s hospitality. “Bahrain is an incredible place, and I am honoured to be here and dedicate myself to supporting our community and culture,” she concludes.
