Here Comes Summer

POTTERY CLASSES
Café Ceramique’s summer camp, which runs during July and August, combines fun and learning in a home away from home setting. The award-winning part craft workshop, part café, located on the second floor of Al A’ali Shopping Complex, offers children the chance to unleash their painting skills on a range of earthenware ­­— mugs, cups, dishes, tiles, moneyboxes, ceramic animals and many more — and create their own ceramic souvenir to take home, after it is glazed and fired.

This year’s camp is open to children aged five years and older and is divided into three different themes: Little Chefs Day, Little Baristas Day and Little Artisans Day, teaching kids hands-on lessons in food making, bar activity and craft arts.

There is also a summer camp for teens, which offers those aged 10 years, and above a tutorial of more intricate ceramic painting procedures.

Bahrain’s newest hot spot is the perfect place to spend some quality time this summer with your family. There are creative workshops for adults too, or you can just simply sit back, relax and enjoy the café’s delectable selection of food while you wait. Call 1758 3500.

Kalabhavan Music and Arts Centre invites children to learn all kinds of musical instruments, such as keyboard, guitar and tabla and get a taste of Indian classical dance and singing. Yoga and arts and crafts lessons add more to this experience for children above the age of five. Classes begin 15 July. Call 1771 7271.

The annual summer camp at the Indian Institute of Performing Arts is open to five to 15-year-olds and runs from 25 July to 19 August and from 22 August to 16 September. Activities offered include Hindustani classical vocal singing, harmonium, tabla, light music, Bharatanatyam, painting, thematic presentation, acting skills, Carnatic classical and light music. Courses cost BD30 for one month or BD50 for two months.

LANGUAGES
Along with fine-tuning your English language, children can also enjoy a variety of activities and field trips at Lingo-ease. The third summer language course for young learners and teens, aged six to 16 years, aims to enable children to make fast progress in spoken and written English. Learn to parler Francais this summer with Alliance Francaise’s four-week intensive programme from 4 to 29 July and 1 to 26 August.

Classes are held twice a week for one-and-a-half hours and are open to children aged four to 16 years. BD48. Call 1768 3295.

SPORTS
The kids’ camp at the Ritz-Carlton offers a range of sport activities, including football, volleyball, swimming and squash lessons for five to 12-year-olds. To provide an outlet for kids’ creativity, they also offer arts and craft lessons. The camp takes place weekly from 1 July and costs BD119 for non-members and BD99 for members. Call 1758 9380.

Keep your four to eight-year-olds busy with a range of sporting activities at Golden Tulip Hotel. The summer camp includes lessons in swimming, tennis and taekwondo by professional coaches five times a week from 4 July. BD30 for one week; BD99 for one month. Call 1753 5000.

Children Health Academy of Specialised Sports (CHAOSS) is organising a camp that offers a host of indoor and outdoor sports, including gymnastics, swimming and ground sports (as well as dance and music) for three to 12-year-olds this summer. The camp kicks off on 12 July and costs BD55 for five days (healthy snacks included in the price).

The Yahoo Club’s summer camp at the Delmon International Hotel includes swimming and karate classes for children. The camp continues till November under the supervision of gym instructor Sajeesh Kumar. BD40 per month for each course. Call 3907 9142.

A specially created programme at CHAOSS camp offers children (up to eight-year-olds) the opportunity to brush up on their swimming skills and keep active this summer. The programme is taught by professional coaches and begins 12 July. BD5.500 per class. Call 1759 2096.

Taekwondo’s not only a great way to exercise, but also teaches self discipline. This summer, help your kids get this two-pronged benefit by enrolling them in Albanna’s summer taekwondo camp. Children are divided into age-specific categories — 3-6 and 7-13. The fees are BD25 for one month and BD60 for three months. Starts 21 July. Call 3666 8390.

Children can improve their skills at probably the finest tennis facility open to the public in the Kingdom, the Bahrain Tennis Club. Coaches are offering lessons twice a week to four to 16-year-olds, from 1 July. There are three levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced. Call 1772 9561.

ART
L’Atelier Art Lounge’s summer camp is perfect for budding artists and those who enjoy make-and-do fun activities. Starting on 4 July, from 9.30am to 1pm, the camp gives children the chance to participate in four different activities each day as well as make two different art projects: wood painting, glass painting, porcelain painting, scrap booking.

BEAUTY
Calling all teenage girls! This summer don’t just sit at home complaining of having nothing to do.
