Tying the Knot

As the year’s most romantic day approaches, WTM takes a look at three of the world’s top wedding destinations, just in case that loved-up dinner turns into a proposal.

The vineyard country of Franschhoek in South Africa’s Western Cape would be hard to beat for scenery as places to stage the big day go. Just 45 minutes from Cape Town by car, it’s an area of towering mountains and flowering meadows with a fair scattering of stunning private estates eager to host your nuptials. The area itself has a thriving arts community as well as some great destination restaurants and, of course, the grape trails and even a ‘Wine Tram’. Outdoor sports enthusiasts will also love this spot and, if you tire of the countryside (and even if you don’t), Cape Town is an absolute must-visit.
