Every tooth has a heart and it’s the job of a cosmetic dentist to keep that heart young and beating, believes Dr Rim Bogari.

There’s no denying that a pleasing smile is an attractive quality that lures people to us. A smile often conveys confident, optimistic and friendly vibes without the person having to speak a word.
Having studied and trained in Germany, Dr Rim Bogari believes she has the best job in the world. The managing director of Ceram Dental Clinic, she is in the business of giving people glamorous smiles.

Woman This Month (WTM): Did you always aspire to be a dental specialist?
Dr Rim Bogari (RB): Not really. My dream as a young girl was to become an artist or a designer. My ambition was to design clothes or jewellery, but my parents were insistent on me going into medicine and so I did.
After years of hard work in Germany, I started to feel that dentistry, especially cosmetic dentistry, involves a lot of art. This got me more involved and I started to develop a passion for cosmetic dentistry.
Changing someone’s smile is not just a technical job. You need to have an eye for beauty to be able to transform a normal smile into a glamorous one!

WTM: How are teeth related to facial aesthetics? In other words, what makes a smile beautiful?
April-2014_People3_01RB: In cosmetic dentistry, there are smile design principles that make a smile beautiful. These include facial aesthetics and gingival aesthetics which deal with gums. Micro-aesthetics has to do with what your teeth should look like. Macro-aesthetics involves your teeth along with the surrounding area.
A wonderful smile also comprises lips, the midline and smile lines, all of which need to be properly analysed for a perfect smile.

WTM: Which dental procedures do you specialise in?
RB: It’s in cosmetic dentistry that I found myself. Through experience, I discovered that this is really what I do best and I’ll continue in that direction.

WTM: Cosmetic dentistry has obviously progressed very far in recent years. Is there anything that isn’t possible in your field these days?
RB: Well, it certainly has room for development like any other specialised field. I think that it will advance further because of the high demand and rising awareness among patients about their looks.

WTM: What motivates you to work?
RB: What better motivation exists than seeing the reaction of a patient, who has just transformed his/her teeth from ‘normal’ to ‘beautiful’? The joy of a patient looking into the mirror and seeing his/her new self gives me the motivation and pleasure to continue what I’m doing.

WTM: What is your ultimate ambition in life?
RB: I want to be one of the leading cosmetic dentists in the world. I believe my abilities as well as my solid educational background will empower me to reach my goals in life.
I love my work and that’s really all you need to reach your aim — along with a glamorous smile!
