That Time of The Year

Chanelmama blogger Ouiam Charkani El Hassani sending festive wishes.

It’s that time of the year again, when we start with those almost painful jokes, that aren’t so funny after all, the “See you next year!” ones; those few seconds of confusion, then finally grasping the idea that “next year” is actually just a few weeks away. It’s also the time when we start reflecting back on what has happened earlier in the year. That time when memories start flooding our brain, and make it a little foggy with mixed feelings, and lots of nostalgia. It’s also when we start preparing those famous New Year’s resolutions, we make lists after lists, and we swear that this year is the year we will stick to them! Yet, to no one’s surprise, we ditch them by February.

It is that time when you feel that the next year must be YOUR year, I mean it has to be! You have been waiting for so long already! You feel that the air around you seems thick with sweetness, your body feels light and smiles are easy to come by. It is a wonderful time of year, when the excitement outweighs all the unkindness of the past. It is December, and with that we prepare ourselves to say goodbye to yet another year, one that has passed by so quickly, just like the other years did. Yet every year we insist that this one was indeed a tad quicker!

No one knows what 2018 has in store for us, no one can possibly know till the year comes to an end, yet we all stand holding hands, praying good things will finally find their way to us.

The beauty of this time is that no matter how hard life has been, now, and till the new year starts, our hearts are full of hope and optimism. No matter whether we believe in luck and magic or not, we still hold on to the tiniest parts of us that do.

Whether you have lost a loved one, or life has gifted you with one of those big punches in the gut that has sucked the air out of you or if your heart still aches from past years’ memories, that still burn as if they were l fresh, or if you simply have had the most mundane, uneventful and boring as hell year ever, I won’t lie and say 2018 will for sure be the ONE for you, because no one knows. Maybe it will be even worse, and maybe it will indeed be the one, but one thing is for sure, fresh starts are always healing. When we turn crippled, ripped pages and start over with a fresh, blank one, it is always a relief. Even if it is for a second, minute or day, we feel peaceful and hopeful, and that is more satisfying that anything else. Hold on to your hopes and peace as long as you can, stock up on them, take as much as you can from this time of the year and spread it around the coming days, weeks and months. No one knows what this gorgeous looking year will surprise us with – I think you’ll all agree with me that 2018 is such a good-looking number; and hopefully it will be full of good-looking surprises too.
