Not everything that glitters is gold. However, we always tend to follow the light and use it as an interesting detail to add sparkle to our outfits. This season, the metallic trend has gone hard-core and super bright. Reflective leathers, lamé, crinkled silks, sequins and other shiny materials comprise a range of ‘must haves’.

Glitz is definitely the order of the day, with plenty of silver and mirrored items. Trousers, tops and skirts are either adorned with or tailored from luminous fabric to catch the reflective trend. Some brands opted for a futuristic effect, but most just used sparkles to add drama to their collections. Paired with other trends or basic pieces, the glitter trend can also be spotted in shoes, handbags and complementary accessories. Glossy lightweight jackets are also a way to add a metallic touch to your outfit.

Emilio Pucci opted for a full-on sparkle look that works well for a glamorous night. The ‘it’ piece to help you shine is definitely a stunning pair of trousers as seen on the runways of Isabel Marant, Loewe and Tod’s. Paco Rabanne played it safe with its flashy jacket.

Twinkle, Twinkle

For a show-off effect go for full-on shine choosing both a sparkling top and bottom. They can be made from the same material or you can play with lamé and sequins for a more interesting result. The metallic trend can also be worn during the day, but you need to tone it down a little and choose only one piece to get your glow on.
