The Holy Month is a time of abstention and reflection for Muslims with the breaking of the fast an occasion for family and friends to come together at sunset to enjoy good food and good company. For non-Muslims the island’s many Iftars and Ghabgas present a unique opportunity to sample traditional Arabic dishes that are not always available at other times. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite places to enjoy this special time of year.

Bushra Bushido Lounge
Bushido’s special Ramadan event is among the trendiest in town. Bushido will be converted into a tent, designed for everyone to share the experience, where there will be a mix of traditional dishes and live cooking stations. It all starts at sunset and goes on till 12.30am. Price is BD16.5++ which includes water, buffet, Arabic beverage selection, Arabic coffee and tea. For more information, call 17 583-555.


Four Seasons Bahrain Bay

Overlooking breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf, the Al Bahrain Ballroom offers a sumptuous dining area and an enigmatic shisha lounge. The buffet offers Lebanese, Moroccan, Indian, Turkish and global cuisine with live cooking stations. Iftar starts at BD25++ from sunset till 8pm, and Ghabga at BD27++ from 9pm to 2am. Sheraton Bahrain
Diners can choose between the ambiance of a traditional Arabic tent at the Awali Ballroom or one of the restaurants within the hotel complex. Al Safir offers a sumptuous Ghabga from 9PM till 2AM priced at BD12++ per person. At Awali Ballroom, Iftar is priced at BD16++ on weekdays and BD17++ on weekends, from sunset to 8.30pm. Al Areen Palace and Spa
Embrace the essence of Arabian majesty at the Nadwah ballroom, which transforms into a dazzling space for the duration of the Holy Month, letting you indulge in a feast after the fast. Iftar buffet, which starts at sundown till 9pm daily, is priced at BD15++ on weekdays, and BD17++ on weekends. The Ghabga buffet is priced at BD16++ on weekdays and BD19++ on weekends.

K Hotel, Juffair
Sample the signature dishes served at Kolors, as well as a superb selection of traditional and international delicacies. Live cooking and carving stations add to the indulgence of a grand experience. The buffet is priced at BD9.9++ per person, children aged six and below dine for free and those aged seven to 12 years eat at half price. Each guest will be entered into a draw to win a two-night-stay at The K Hotel, with winners being announced at the end of the month.
