Radiance-Reviving Care

Apple Sharma tried and tested this popular salon’s hair products to see what makes them stand out from the pack.

Ever wondered why it’s so difficult to have salon-perfect hair? Could it be that we are not using the right products? I’ve been colouring my hair for years now, and one of the main challenges I face is maintaining it – retouching the roots et cetera but, most importantly, keeping it healthy from the inside out. Any sort of colour or other treatments take a huge toll on your tresses; hence it’s all the more important to give extra care.

I met with Dessange Paris Bahrain’s salon manager, Amie, to see what goodies she had in store for me to try. Knowing I had short, blonde hair, she chose the items perfectly to match my needs.

At the risk of sounding a little bonkers, I tend to have at least two or three different shampoos on the go at the same time. And if you’re one of those people who have their bathroom trolleys overflowing with products, you’ll understand my excitement when I rushed home to add four more to my loot.

Amie had given me Dessange Paris Couleur Collection Radiance Shampoo and Mask as well as one of my favourites – Natural Pigma’s Colour Optimizer Shampoo and Pigma Fix Color-Setting Mask.

She explained that the items were made in Paris and exclusive to Dessange, saying: “They’re all sulphates- and paraben-free, so the customers prefer them to other products. Our clients are very aware and conscious about the ingredients used.”

I couldn’t wait to try them and jumped straight in the shower as soon as I reached home.

For intense toning, first wash hair once with regular shampoo and towel dry it to remove excess water. Then apply the optimiser shampoo generously. The trick here is to not lather or foam it and leave it on for anything between 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the desired intensity. Then start lathering by adding a little water and rinse.

Follow this with Pigma Fix mask on towel-dried hair, leave for three to five minutes, rinse, et voila!
My locks felt squeaky (yes, I actually heard the ‘squeak’ sound) clean and silky smooth. I used Natural Pigma Pearl, which is ideal for neutralising and toning blonde hair. It can be used as a regular shampoo to maintain colour and eliminate brassiness.

Other hues include brown, copper, black, red and chestnut and each can be mixed and customised for the client.

The Dessange Radiance Shampoo is ideal for fine hair that is colour-treated or highlighted, giving a lustrous, intense shade. Its rare ingredients of black pearl, tamanu oil, anti-fading polymer and sulfate-free cleansing base derived from cotton, mean that it’s easy on the environment and your locks, keeping superb colour and luminous highlights for longer. Just apply to wet hair, gently work up a lather and rinse thoroughly.

The Dessange Radiance Mask has the same ingredients with the added benefit of tara gum, which helps to moisturise and energise your tresses, leaving hair soft and shiny with a stunning shade to last until your next appointment at the salon.

Of all the treatments the optimiser shampoo remains my all-time favourite and it’s one I use regularly. However, having had the chance to sample the rest of the range, my hair feels better than ever and I will certainly be going back for more and would strongly recommend you do too!
