Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have finally made their relationship official by getting formally engaged in Mumbai on Saturday. Nick, the Texan singer, formerly part of the Jonas Brothers, and Priyanka, the Bollywood superstar turned Hollywood celebrity, both wore traditional Indian clothes and participated in a traditional “roka” – where both families exchange gifts and make their union public. The roka was followed by an engagement party in a Mumbai hotel on Saturday night.
The pair, whose engagement had been rumoured for about three weeks, have not yet announced a date for the wedding. The couple shared identical photos from the ceremony on their respective Instagram pages. While Jonas referred to Priyanka as the “future Mrs Jonas”, Priyanka summed it beautifully, posting, “Taken.. with all my heart and soul.”
Priyanka and Nick attended the Met Gala together last year, and he is believed to have proposed to Priyanka with a Tiffany ring in London on her birthday, July 18.
Chopra, who won the Miss World pageant in 2000, has acted in over 50 films in India, and won several awards making her one of Bollywood’s highest-paid actresses. Time magazine named her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world two years ago, and last year Forbes magazine included her in a list of the world’s 100 most powerful women. She made a mark in the US with a role in the TV series Quantico and film roles in Ventilator, Baywatch and A Kid like Jake.
Jonas, who is a decade younger than Chopra, is popular for being part of a band with his brothers Joe and Kevin, and his films like Camp Rock have awarded him a massive following on Disney Channel. He has since gone solo, with hits including Levels, Jealous and Chains and was a mentor with Demi Lovato on the X Factor.
