Good as New

Handbags are to women what cars are to men. They are the single most worn items in our closets and it’s high time we start taking care of them!

1 – Don’t leave it on the floor
In this part of the world, placing bags on the floor is considered bad luck. Looks like our grandmothers had it right. A sure way to make your handbags last longer is to keep them away from the ground. Think of all those germs.

2- Keep in a cool, dry place
Keeping our most treasured items away from the sun goes without saying. Bahrain’s summer heat wrecks havoc on our cars, let alone our handbags. Always store your totes in a dry, cool area.

3 – Proper storage
There is good reason your designer purchases come with stuffings and a dust bag – for storage. If you’ve already discarded them an easy DIY storage replacement is a pillowcase. Stuff your bags with paper as to not lose their shape.

4- Get cleaning
Do not use leather or suede cleaners created for shoes, cars or furniture, these are usually soap-based and could leave stains. Another bag menace is ink, refrain from using alcohol to clean up pen stains and instead go with white eraser — don’t rub too hard though as that could remove colour. For a fool-proof way to remove any odour from handbags — place a container of baking soda inside.

5- Don’t overstress
Ladies, there is a fine line between handbags and luggage. As tempting as it is to leave the house carrying everything you could possibly need, don’t. Carry only your essentials, overloading your purse will stretch the material and ruin the shape.
