The end of the long summer break is almost here and kids both big and little will soon be heading back to the classroom. If your youngsters wear uniform, you’ll, no doubt, already have stocked up on the necessities for the new term. If, however, they are at a school where mufti is the order of the day, it can feel like a bit of a chore sorting out what they’re going to wear each day.

BAGS
A funky school bag can really help if a child is experiencing anxiety about heading back to school. Whether you go for plain and functional, superheroes, something sport inspired or a truly girly-fabulous option, make sure it’s something that fits well, is a good enough size to carry books, lunches etc and is something your child is OK with toting around. Also look for something that’s good value as there’s a strong chance you’ll be replacing it before the school year is out.

TEES
Mix a selection of funky, slightly costlier T-shirts with a good supply of cheap and cheerful brightly coloured cotton polos or round-neck basics. The posher options will give your youngster the chance to express their individuality while the more pocket-friendly everyday items will help keep costs down and are easily replaceable.

SHOES
With growing feet, you can’t afford to compromise on fit but they don’t have to cost the earth and making sure your child has more than one pair of shoes they’re happy to spend the day in will ensure they last longer in the long run. Give them the option of having something a bit more fun alongside their regular school shoes to avoid morning arguments and demands for highly priced trainers which many schools do not encourage.
