With the enticing allure of mulled beverages, plum cake, bratwurst and gingerbread, the Christkindlesmarkt is arguably the most popular Christmas market in all of Europe. Shimmering with colourful festive lights, more than 180 wooden stands sell handcrafted ornaments, toys, games and holiday treats. Take a carriage ride around the cobbled streets of the old town surrounding the market to see some dazzling decorations and winter greenery.

Once you’re totally shopped out head up to the castle, or visit one of several museums in the vicinity.
