The island’s much anticipated competition is back to test your courage in the kitchen.
Cucina Italiana, one of the most popular Italian restaurants in Bahrain, invites amateur chefs to partake in the fifth season of its Master Chef competition.
Thirty-six contestants will face off in the heats over the month of January 2018, spread over six rounds. Each round will see six contestants compete to prove their gastronomic prowess, and two entrants from each round will progress to the semi-finals held in February.
Of the 12 shortlisted contestants, four will ace the semi-finals to qualify for the Grand Final on February 11, in which one contestant will win the honour of Master Chef’s coveted black apron.
The initial elimination round will give participants 45 minutes to create an Italian dish (anything except pizza) using ingredients of their choice. All raw elements will be provided by the restaurant, and have to be chosen within a five-minute window before the cook-off starts. Contestants are allowed to bring with them their preferred kitchen equipment and up to three speciality ingredients (not including proteins), should they not be on the list of food provided. All of them would have had three days to prepare themselves after receiving the briefing on the competition, to ensure they are on an even footing when it comes to preparation.
Participants will be judged on various criteria, including taste and texture, presentation of the dish, authenticity of the food and its method of preparation, and balance of flavours and portioning. The judges will ask questions on the contestants’ creations, which may also influence the scoring.
The island awaits with bated breath to see who will reign supreme in the culinary battle of Bahrain this year.
